Pumpkin spice pancakes have made my favorite breakfast list for a couple decades. Gulp. It seems like just yesterday I was devouring one of these plate-sized pancakes at Parker's Maple Barn in New Hampshire. Talk about feeling fall through and through. New Hampshire's changing leaves, a brisk chill in the air, pumpkin patches along the trek, a maple farm in the woods, and a pumpkin pancake set before you with the farm's maple syrup to flood the plate...er...drizzle over the cake. How did I ... continue reading...
Autumn Apple Crisp
If apple orchard, then Autumn Apple Crisp. And, if I have anything to do with it, when apple orchard, then apple crisp. Yep, the annual trip to the apple orchard is on the must-do fall list and has been since I was growing up in Minnesota. Each September, we'd make a day trip to the orchard (usually Pine Street orchard) and fill up on apples, apple cider, and apple cider donuts (see my apple cider bread recipe - ode to the apple cider donut). Making apple crisp was always the end result of ... continue reading...
Apple Cider Streusel Bread
Each year as fall approaches I scratch my head wondering how we got back here so quickly. It takes me a minute to accept summer's departure, and then the first sunny day with a chill in the air comes along, and fall's got me. Forget summer vacations, sandals, garden fruits and veggies, and berry baked goods. Hello all things fall (and cozy): sweaters, changing leaves, crisp walks, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and BAKING. This Apple Cider Streusel Bread kicks my fall bake-a-thon off ... continue reading...

Can the real muesli please stand up. I'm not talking muesli's trendy step sister, overnight oats, or the muesli that you find in our cereal aisle, aka granola with milk. I'm talking about this breakfast hero, Healthy On-the-Go Muesli Cereal. I had the honor of meeting the real mccoy in Switzerland while traveling the year before the bakery opened. The original, Swiss Bircher Muesli, was created by Dr. Bircher who was a proponent of raw foods in the late 1800's, is a cold porridge of oats, ... continue reading...
The 10 Essential Baking Tools for the Home Baker
I used to have an unhealthy relationship with the kitchen departments at Marshall’s, TJMaxx, and HomeGoods. Certified sucker for deals, especially baking and cooking related. I’d stroll the aisles on the lookout for baking tools, pans, and gadgets. I’m pretty sure that I never walked away empty handed. Inevitably, I would rarely to never use these finds. They sat in my very little kitchens, in tiny city apartments, that cost a fortune. While the thrill of the chase was exhilarating, the end ... continue reading...
