With time flying at record speeds (is it just me!??!), it's time to jump into the inner workings of the day to day Flour + Co business. I know, I know...you're probably yawning right about now. I, however, am jumping into one of my favorite things. Operations. Operations is like the stage crew of a theatrical production. If the production is amazing and you lose yourself in the story unfolding on stage, then the stage crew has done their job well. The lights go on when they should, you can ... continue reading...
Journey Part 15 1/2: The Mail Order Bakery
Let's get this straight. I'm not mailing in for a "bakery kit" that gives me all I'd ever need to open a bakery in one tidy package. That package would include the good, bad and ugly I'm sure (probably emphasizing the bad and ugly). Nope, I'm just referring to the growing mound of packages tha]]> The pile of packages, growing day by day[/caption] These boxes come from three sources: purchasing things online because they aren't readily available close to home (1), things that have been ... continue reading...
Journey Part 15: The Fancy Food Show 2013
The National Association of Specialty Food Trade puts on the winter Fancy Food Show each January in San Francisco. It's attended by thousands of retailers, restauranteurs, and distributors (plus some) who are looking for new and innovative products. Holy moly, it's getting busy around here. So much so, that my lists are piling up. I'm pretty sure that, in an organized world, you are supposed to have one list that you add to as needed. It's just so easy to grab the nearest piece of paper when things pop into mind, or make a "today" list which expands into a "tomorrow" list. You get the drift. I've still got it together, but if anyone else tried to make sense of it, we'd all be in trouble. So, instead of a beefy, topical blog this week, ... continue reading...
Journey Part 13: The Interior of Flour & Co
Happy new year to you! While my new year is happy so far, I'm not sure my jeans would agree. That stretch denim is really being put to the test. Usually, I preach the words of moderation, but the holidays got the better of me. Or maybe it's the other way around?? Or maybe it's all of the recipe testing that I've been doing this past year. Regardless of how it happened, these days are spent trying to rid my mind and body of December's toxins. Oh -- and dealing with the mounting bakery ... continue reading...
